Crossbow Debate Results - 8/13/09

Wow how quick the week has flown by when your having fun. This week has been an intereting and exciting one here at WCWOhio folks. Combined with a hunt for a record and new video and pictures being captures, and toss in emails and phone calls and you have a mix of excitement. The pace is picking up here at the ranch, and boy I can wait to post the new pictures and video we are still capturing.

However while we wait for those, I want to provide a bit of an insight on a previous article about crossbows. Man the comments keep pouring in about the crossbow debate and I felt it best to share them with you. Before I do however, remember to stop by the homepage and check out the Apollo 13 contest that is still running. Entries continue to come in, so don't miss your chance for that FREE HUNT!

Now onto the debate! If you are not familiar with the article in question, step back to the daily news page and take a peak, but for a quick summary I shared a debate in regards to crossbows. The debate is wether they should be considered a bow and their use allowed during archery season. Some say they are guns, others still consider them a bow. What side are you on?

I shot my deer at WCW with a crossbow. My thoughts are they are compared more to a vertical bow simply because the bolts are the same as arrows. They are string drawed. The bolts shoot about the same distance as arrows not a firearm. And they have both compound and recurve style crossbows. Some hunters like myself are disabled and cannot draw a compound or recurve bow and hold it on target for a clean kill. So I think we should not be criticized for using them. In Oklahoma if your disabled you have to have a statement from a certified doctor to qualify to use a crossbow. Anyone just cant use them.
Thanks

I have Fibromalygia and if wasn't for a crossbow I couldn't hunt during bow season.
Some people think crossbows are for girls. But some people with disabilitys need them ?????

As an outfitter and guide for most of my life (I'm 67), it has been my observation that archers spend more time putting down non-archery methods of hunting and less time defending the ethical harvest of game by any means in the critical battle we have with anti-hunters which is far more important. Let's circle the wagons and shoot outside of the circle, not inside.

Crossbows are choice and have their limits. I have never heard of a 250 yard bow shot, Howard Hill not withstanding. The real issue is ethics, a clean kill. A bow hunter with 80% letoff is is not the nonler huntsman.

Crossbows are fine, but should be in Blackpowder season. As long as I am writing. Bow season should be lumped in with blackpowder and crossbow and only last a week. By the time rifle season comes around, the woods are totally whacked for rifle hun... read more »
