Long Weekends and Apollo 13 Contest Update - 7/3/09

Hello everyone and happy Friday! As we are approaching the 4th of July weekend, many of us are preparing to light up our grills, fill the cooler, and sit back and watch explosions in the sky. Sounds like an awesome weekend to me. But as I'm sitting here I started to think about the long weekends many of us are privileged to during a holiday.

Now what I’m referring to here is how some employers allow extra time off before and sometimes after a holiday, which is great, but some on the other hand don’t and even work through holidays. Now we all enjoy time off, and long weekends are great, but what about during the hunting season and those who don’t get much time off?

I have seen in the past many take time off from work to go hunting. Hey, we all take time off from work at some point in our lives even if we aren’t sick. Now I know my employer understands, but some don’t accept hunting as a reason to not be at work.

So what I’m wondering is, how do some of us ensure we have that long weekend to go out and stalk prey? I know some of us use the old trick of calling in sick, but depending on your boss and where you work they will either know better, or require a doctor’s excuse. And I know some of us want to hunt during the week so need more time off than just one day.

Share your excuses to get out of work (or any other event) so you can go hunting. The best excuses will be posted in a future article! Now before I leave you to submit your best excuse, I know some of us receive vacation time. If you receive such time off, do you save your vacation or at least a portion of it to go hunting?

I look forward to seeing your replies. And now onto some ranch news!

The Apollo 13 contest is off to a strong start with entries coming in. However we noticed that we forgot to clarify at what point in time your guess should be associated with. In regards to that we are looking for his hard antler score. For those of you who have submitted a score guess already, you are more than welcome to re-submit your score to meet the proper time criteria. We apologize for any problems this may have caused.

In other news we are still watching the bucks grow bigger and bigger everyday and plan on providing new updated pictures in coming articles very soon. I know personally I have to make it out to the ranch this coming week to check on things, so that should bring some exciting results that I will be sure to share with all of you. Keep the comments and emails coming in, the more replies we recieve the better!
