I made it home from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show!

It was a great show! It was my first time being at the show and I loved it! I met a lot of new hunters and their families, a lot of hunters who receive my emails, and seen a lot of AWESOME animal mounts. I appreciate all of you who came up and met me. I hope everyone got a brochure and a DVD. I did take a walk around out there and took some photo’s. If you did not make it to the show, you missed out! I seen more people at that show than I have ever seen at any show before. If you are still trying to get dates scheduled with me, email me nickiwcw@yahoo.com

Happy New Year from World Class Whitetails of Ohio, Ltd.

Well, the Texas and West Virginia boys can sure shoot bows!! We took these guys out into a brisk, snowy Ohio morning and they shot 3 of the largest bucks taken this year at World Class Whitetails of Ohio. These boys got to enjoy the first snow of the season, what we've been waiting for all year!! We're still hunting heavy and will continue for the next two weeks.

Dan is taking 400 class bucks for the first 2 weeks next year in September. We are only selling 12 of these hunts with 10 already sold! First week of September is sold out!! Booking the second week now. Then, Dan is taking 30 – 300" class bucks for the last 2 weeks of September, most of these are sold out as well. Then we'll start taking 60 – 200" class bucks in the first 2 weeks of October. To get an early spot at all the biggest bucks, call Dan at 330-231-4282

Scott Hall from North Carolina

Dan just got off the phone with Scott from announcing him the winner of the 300" Monster Buck Christmas Giveaway!!! Scott says the biggest buck he has taken is a 150" class in Texas, so, it looks like this 300" buck will double that!! Scott is in a wheelchair and he will probably hunt with a rifle. Due to time restraints, the hunt may be postponed until early next fall. Scott says he's been watching the web every night to see who the winner may be and he just couldn't believe it!!

Merry Christmas Scott and everyone who participated. We are looking forward to this hunt!

Also, Dan has 2 openngs for Wednesday and Thursday next week and 1 opening the following week. He is taking the last 10 bucks in the next 2 weeks. We have a few 140's, 170's, 200's, 250's and 350 class bucks for a year end deal, call Dan this morning at 330-231-4282

We had a great time with Bud's group of 6 from Ohio, Chappie made his 5th trip back to WCW this week, and Mike's group of 5 is in from Pennsylvania today, should be a great hunt!! Next week we'll be taking some monster bucks 250"+ and even a 400"

That's right… Justin Smiley!!! Former Right Guard for the Jacksonville Jaguars!!! It was great to have Justin with us. There will be video from his hunt soon! Also in camp was John and his family from Texas, we had a great time with them, there will be videos from their hunts also!

Bud's group from Ohio will be coming in soon, along with groups from West Virginia and Chappie with be back at WCW! Can't wait for a great hunt guys!!

Trophy Deer Hunting in North Dakota

From waterfowl, upland game and big game species, hunters and outdoor enthusiasts in North Dakota can all participate in the hunting season. Deer are the most popular big game species in North Dakota, and with a population that's spread throughout the state, hunters have a chance at killing a trophy deer.

Species

The two species of deer found in North Dakota are the whitetail deer and mule deer. Whitetail deer are the most popular deer species in North Dakota and are characterized by a light brown coat and evenly branched antlers. Mule deer can be identified by large ears, blackish-brown coat and forked antlers. Common habitat includes river valleys and wooded hills for the whitetail and open, prairie country for the mule deer.

Public Ground

More than 90 percent of North Dakota is privately owned, making it difficult to gain access to hunting areas. Public hunting areas, however, can be found throughout the state, including the Private Lands Open To Sportsmen program. Every year, the North Dakota Game and Fish Department works with private landowners to offer public hunting areas. These areas are an excellent area to find trophy deer. Other public hunting opportunities exist in the State Wildlife Management Areas.

Methods

North Dakota allows you to hunt with archery equipment, muzzleloader or rifle. Depending on your preference, different hunting methods can be used to successfully kill a trophy deer in North Dakota. An archery season that opens in early September provides an opportunity to kill a velvet-antlered buck. Successful methods during the archery season include stand hunting for whitetails and spot-and-stalk for mule deer. The gun season opens in early November and runs concurrently with the rut, or breeding season. Decoys, calling and sitting along travel corridors are effective trophy hunting methods.

Top Regions

Deer units are broken down between highways and natural geographical features. North Dakota, as of 2010, has 38 deer hunting units. According to the Boone and Crockett Club, most of the trophy-producing counties are found in the western half of the state. The north-central counties of Renville, Bottineau, McHenry, Pierce and Rolette have at least one deer entered into the Boone and Crockett record books from 1980 to 2001. The west-central region also produces trophy deer, with the counties of McKenzie, Golden Valley, Billings, Dunn and McLean at the top of the list.

Trophy Potential

“Trophy” deer hunting is in the eye of the beholder, but according to the record books, the trophy potential for North Dakota bucks is among the best in the Midwest. For example, three hunters killed typical whitetails measuring about 170 inches in 2008 and four hunters killed non-typical whitetails in 2007 and 2008.
