What’s Going on at World Class Whitetails of Ohio from Senior Guide Bud
Gene and Jimmy arrive from Texas touring the facilities and getting ready for an evening hunt. In a blind where we have seen most of our does getting pushed too many bucks on one doe this time of year as the rut is in full swing, broken antlers and bucks being gored are the norm for three more weeks. As we settle down in the blind, after a few minutes, Jimmy sees a 160” class buck he just can’t turn down! What a buck! He gets into position before I know what’s happening, but I told him he had a clean shot, go ahead and the buck is taken. Now, Gene is getting itchy on the trigger, saying, “over to our right is a big one coming into the clearing, what is he?” I look several times with my binoculars and give the command. He is a monster, going at least 180” and Gene says “that’s what I want” and I gave him the go ahead and the shot is clear. We get both bucks loaded as it is getting late. We head to the lodge to cape the two bucks and get some food as the weather is getting rather cold when you’re sitting most of the day although a few of the blinds are heated.
We arrive at the lodge and Mike and Scott have just pulled in from North Carolina. They flew into Columbus and are eager to check out the day’s kill. Oohing and wowing, boy you guys got some monsters. Jimmy and Gene assure then there are even larger bucks out there. Seeing 200” class with four droptines, what a buck! We eat supper, Mike and Scott tour the Ranch are a ready to get into the woods. We have the Polaris warmed up and ready to go as I get the day’s needs together. Finally we are rolling around on the Polaris to do some safari style hunting. We have more hunters, Dwayne and Chuck arrive from North Carolina. They join everyone still hunting safari style. Mike has his heart set on a nice 10 point spotted in an open field some 100 yards away. He takes this beautiful typical ten. Steve wants to go to the opposite side of the ranch in a weed field where he saw a deer that must have had 20 points. He asks me if I think there’s any chance that he could get close enough to get a shot. In the meantime, we go out back.
A few of us grab a bite to eat as its getting close to lunchtime, they want quick cold cut sandwiches and a few sides before we get back, with have three more hunters. We now need the second machine fired up so Dan gets the Kawasaki mule, this also has double seats. We are now both hunting safari style, until 4:00pm we get into some blinds in the hot spots and take a few more deer from these blinds. When it was all said and done, there were eight hunters, and seven lucked out in the first two days. Two hunters with over 200”, two typical 10’s, and three 12 pointers. The last day, several aren’t scheduled to leave and ride with the final hunter who is looking for a nice, typical 10. We find this hunter his buck after several hours and everything worked out great. Another hunt, another experience. Every hunt is just a little different.
So long,
Bud Deters
